Bird Flu case near Wainfleet

There has been a confirmed case of Avian Influenza (bird flu) at a commercail premises near Skegness and the government has declared a 3km protection zone and a 10 km surveillance zone around the affected area. Wainfleet All Saints falls within the surveillance area IIf you keep poultry or captive birds you must register with Lincolnshire County Council using an on line form www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/avianflu/skegness10 or call 01522 552490.

If your birds become ill consult your vet immediately and if you suspect that kept birds are showing any signs of the disease then report this to APHA by telephoning 03000 200 301.

If the birds are wild, no action is required. However, you can assist by reporting dead wild waterfowl (swans, ducks, geese) or other wild birds (gulls, birds of prey) to the DEFRA helpline on 03459 335577.
